One thing I've always admired about the Yanks is the option to form militia. Having a hand in ensuring your own safety must be nice.
The whole militia thing can backfire bigly. The ones who grab the most media attention are the folks to avoid. But when it comes down to it, Joe Six pack is on the same playing field as LE.

No he's not mate, not even close. If you ever get the chance to look inside a State Police armoury I believe you'll get a big surprise.

Yeah I hear you. But I have family over your way and they do the militia thing. And they are law abiding. Just do it as an insurance policy really. You never know.

Not in every State and only for now. That practice is about to come to an end and I agree it should. I believe no firearm should be sold or given to another person without a background check, especially if you don't know the person.

Lets face it Jonesy, you could sell a rifle to a neighbour you've known for some time, do you really know that neighbour? It's not like they are going to brag about having a past felony conviction.

Last year I transferred a pistol to one of my lads, I made him jump through the hoops because he's not going to tell me if he's been in trouble since he left home.
I also have access to databases, that 99 percent of the population does not have Sam. So a check is discretely done by a coworker, to make sure. I have declined transactions before, because I will not sell to the underage or people who are a bit iffy if you catch my drift.

But I will never make my dad, sibling, or children go through a background check either. To give them one of my firearms.

Most people doing the face to face business want to see a valid CCW permit. Which is a reasonable standard of proof.

But background checks will be the upcoming norm in the future. I am also ok with limiting purchases of handguns to one a month and sales to no more than three a month. Which should cover gift giving.

Not really. Old M14’s, Glocks or M&P’s, with AR’s and shotguns. Pretty run of the mill. No MK19’s and 240’s to create fire dominance. Hell even the SWAT team is pretty screwed in their MRAP as those things are road bound and severely limit the avenues of approach they can use.

So this guy doesn't understand then?

'As Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo stood before news cameras last week and demanded action from Republican lawmakers on gun safety legislation, he was the embodiment of the police mission to protect and serve the public.

'In blunt remarks that were directly on point, Acevedo blistered the GOP for sacrificing the safety of Americans — including law enforcement officers — out of deference to the gun lobby. As he spoke, his department was preparing to escort one of its own, Sgt. Chris Brewster, to a funeral home after Brewster was shot and killed in the line of duty.

“I don’t want to hear about how much they support law enforcement,” Acevedo said. “I don’t want to hear about how much they care about lives and the sanctity of lives, yet we all know in law enforcement that one of the biggest reasons that the Senate and Mitch McConnell and (Texas Sens.) John Cornyn and Ted Cruz and others are not getting into a room and having a conference committee with the House and getting the Violence Against Women Act (passed) is because the NRA doesn’t like the fact that we want to take firearms out of the hands of boyfriends that abuse their girlfriends.

“And who killed our sergeant? A boyfriend abusing his girlfriend. So you’re either here for women and children and our daughters and our sisters and our aunts, or you’re here for the (National Rifle Association).”

Left wing city hires left wing police chief...

Well if that comes back to bite you on the arrse you'll only have yourself to blame.

Sorry mate but your knowledge is a bit behind the times were State Police weaponry is concerned.

'If you don’t come from gun country, you will never understand firearms ownership.' So the Texas left don't live in the same country? So much for 'one nation under God', et al.

Surely you jest? Or did you mean this Emerald City; in which case no wonder your mind was blown!

Let’s pray I don’t. But the sibling and father are pretty low risk.
Even with family mate, it's better to be safe than sorry. I've seen it backfire, a father who didn't know his son had a felony conviction until the son was checked out by the DNR during deer season.

Which would suck. But some families do stay close and If they screwed up I would hear about it anyways.

Fort Carson
10th SFG

In order to woo prospective idiots, showing the glam tour with all the kit and training RA/NG won’t ever get is a must. They even had a Jump simulator with a VR goggle/helmet thing and the harness to boot. Which was fun until a team leader tightened the straps so hard I thought my left nut was going to burst. It was miserable and that was just a training simulator. Feck that stuff!!

Fort Cartoon is the nickname for Carson.
Emerld City is the nickname for the 10th SFG compound on the post.

Jonesy, Military and State Police, I would expect the Military to have a far broader range of weaponry but don't make the mistake in thinking that Joe sixpack is equal to the State Police mate, he's not even close old son.
