Sally 'suspect discovered dead'

A man police wanted to question over the murder of Sally Geeson is thought to have been found dead in Scotland.
Cambridgeshire Police are investigating whether a body discovered in Glasgow is that of Lance Corporal David Atkinson.

A statement from police about the body said: "Detectives... are awaiting the outcome of forensic tests from both Scotland and Cambridge."

Miss Geeson's naked body was found on Friday three miles from where she was last seen on New Year's Day.

It was discovered by a man walking near the World War II American Military Cemetery in Madingley - three miles from the Avery pub in Cambridge city centre where Miss Geeson attended a New Year's Eve party.

Forensic tests expected

Cambridgeshire Police said: "Officers are investigating reports that a man who died in an incident at a hotel in the centre of Glasgow on Saturday, January 8, could be Lance Corporal David Atkinson, 31."

Police in Strathclyde have said they are not treating the man's death at the Corus hotel in Glasgow as suspicious.

The result of the forensic tests "are expected within 24 to 48 hours", Cambridgeshire Police added.

The man found in Glasgow is believed to be based at the Royal Engineers' Waterbeach barracks near Cambridge.

Det Sup Garry Swain, leading the investigation said: "The inquiry remains active and we continue to assess all the evidence we have gathered in this case as we await results from forensic examinations."

Flowers and letters of condolence have been left near the spot where Miss Geeson's body was found.

A forensic science student Miss Geeson, 22, was due to start her final exams at Anglia Polytechnic University this week.

Her body was identified by her father company director Laurence, 51.

She was from Southend in Essex.
