Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Evening all,

Just a quick question; what is the progression system for coastal sailing?
I know there's a Competent Crew qualification, but is the next one up a type of Skipper?
Reason for asking is looking at a bareboating holiday, and need a qual, so need to get cracking on achieving it ASAP.

    Cheers,
    Tango

Editted to ask - How long would it take to get to Day Skipper?

  2. RYA day skippers course is 5 days

If you're going for a military course - ask someone else ;)

  4. Yeah, was trying to sponge the course off the Regiment, I'll have to pester the training wing clerk when I get back. Thanks for the website, didn't think of checking the civilian organisation.
    Enjoy the long weekend.

Joint Services Adventure Sail Centre is a good place to start! Ring them to see which courses have spaces then bid for them via your unit. I've had alot of good weeks for free thanks to these people, excellent training.
