S/Sgt Robin Walker REME

The party is finally over mate and I'm gona miss you and our trips to the far east! You was certainly one of a kind that could never be replaced RIP Buddy.

Rob was our Troop Sgt in the Berlin Armd Sqn in the late 80's in Berlin with the 1420H B and C sqns. An absolute gentleman and all round decent bloke. He never failed to keep us amused and was probably one of the best supervisory ranks I had the pleasure to work with. He didnt need to have a go because we all wanted to work for him.

Rob, we had a lot of laughs and went a lot of places together, see you wen I get there.

John R

RIP, Mr Robin Walker.

A massive loss to our world and to all his friends in the corps, served with Rob at 28 Eng 1996 - 1998 when he fianally handed in his MOD 90 and gave what i consider the best and funniest leaving speach i have ever had the pleasure to listed too. Still use his punch line today and makes me smile when i remember it.

Rob, was the model artisan in everyway, and any Cfn and JNCO that had the pleasure to serve with Rob, had a model soldier and tradesman to follow.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart i read this as Rob was never far from my thoughts of soldiers who got out, and what they were up too.

To Robs family and friends my thoughts are with you, and i only wish i could be there to say farwell to a fellow artisan and true gentleman.
If anyone can inform me of his resting place i would be greatful, just to say goodbye to him.

Many a happy hour in the mess listening to your stories Rob, what a life, outstanding in everyway, and to quote you my good friend, " he was fed up of the army pissing down his back and telling him its raining " a total gem.

Rob i will see you at the pearly gates, spanners at hand and we will pimp the lords charriot up.

Mate, even when he was a Lance Jack Rob had a similar...

Imagine the scenario; some git is explaining to Rob how well chuffed he is at a bargain he'd just made; a cheap motor/swapped a pair of jeans for a cd/wodeva.

Then Rob enlightens the git in his innimitable manner, with the famous; 'Is yer fookin back wet?'

To which the git dumbly replies all quizzical; 'No,'

and Rob dryly executes the obvious; 'Well soom coonts joost fookin pissed oop it' but manages to keep a straight face while the rest of us are creased up.

Funny as fcuk, dry as fcuk. I'd have loved to have been at the dine out, I can only imagine how funny the speech was.

and even if you're still serving now tiller-block-tommy, there's still times when I'm grafting away and right out of the blue I remember some daft thing someone did or said.

Looking back, that's what made it all worth while, weren't it? The blokes you met and the antics that happened.

Sorry to detract from the seriousness of the thread subject but Rob was a very good mate and this is the best way I can make a tribute to the fact. Wish I'd have kept in touch, even if it was to hear who he'd caught lately with his famous 'Is yer fookin back wet?' heh heh

All the best Rob, Rest in Peace me old mate.

Swamp rat,
Cheers for the memories, just hope all the wedge head boys like QM and Mr D know about this, not just a loss to our corps, but to many other regiments and units Rob served in.
We spent many a happy nights in 23 ARSES tweeking and tuning his cossy, only to take it down the autobahn at mach 6 for that extra 2 BHP, fantastic.
Hope the corps mag gets to know also so this can be spread corps wide, to give the gentleman the respect he deserves.
Will miss the NAAFI break quiz of BOB ( bloke or bird ) when he returned from his 6 weeks diving holidays ( wink wink ) wot an absolute star.
I am still in this circus, and in the land of dish dash, porn tash, flip flops at the mo, but if and when i find out were Rob is getting his head down i will visit him to say goodbye, with a large baileys coffee in hand.
IN THE WORDS OF CHESNEY HAWKES " HE WAS THE ONE AND ONLY "

t-b-t, many thanks for the post, it made me smile and chuckle i must admit, Rob off to a tee!

His funeral was the week before last, he had a good turn out and we kept the drinks flowing till the early hours. His resting place will hopefully be Thailand, one of the lads has his ashes due to the kindness of his mother. We are hoping to take a trip to Thailand next year and release his ashes at 50 metres. It is all TBC but i will inform anyone who wishes to know nearer the time and when i get any confirmation.

The quotes about the Cosworth made me smile, i presume you mean the "fire engine"?

i bought that car off Robin, i only sold it last year, same engine, same big smiles whenever i drove it. My mate back home now has it, its still pushing nearly 380BHP and it still shows these young pup scoobys and Evo's a thing or two....... a bit like the man himself i do believe, he could always show people a thing or two.

the quote "dont p1ss up my back and tell me it's raining" had me in stitches, and i think your right the Engr's would be very sad at his passing, the QM of 28 and i heard him talk of "mungo"? on numerous occasions.

i plan on doing a craftsman piece for him very shortly when i can get the info needed to do him justice.

This old bloke certainly is.
For the brief time I knew him, the honour was all mine, a true gentleman.
He brightened the place up with his utter (apparent) misery and his jaundiced view of everything.
Sleep well rob, hope the beaches are sandy in your corner of paradise.

It is with a sad heart that I read this, I served with Rob at 23 Amph at Hameln i 1993-94 , spent 6 months at the maze and lived in the mess with him. The man is a legend and this earth deserves more of his time, all of the quotes bring memories flooding back, his stories are still strong with me and I will remember the man for the rest of my life, I speak of him to my son, who is a crafty VM as well. I had never heard of Mansfield Woodhouse until i met Rob!!!In fact i still have some of his porn knocking about somewhere!!A true gentleman and will be so sorely missed, it was a pleasure to have met, sat and laughed with you, RIP mate.

What a sad loss, Rob was a very funny bloke who could have me pixxing myself with just a few comments! I met him when I was Chief Clerk of 23 Amph Engr Sqn.

If ArmysurplusSpecial or anyone needs help with the ashes release in Thailand. I have a mate (retired WO2) who lives on Koh Suomi and is currently the British Embassy's local high commissioner for the island. He also helps run a diving school so could be a useful contact - PM me if I can help!

I heard that Rob had left us, and have Just been sent a link to this site bby XXXX XXXXXXXX ex REME, and felt the need to write down a few memories.
I had the great pleasure of serving with Rob in a few places including Berlin (where he enjoyed showing us the seedier side of the once great city). And many, many trips to the reep while on firing camps.
My best memory was some "young lady of the evening" running over to us, hugging Rob and saying " Hi Rob, I have not seen you for 2 years"...........what sort of impression had he made with her to be remembered after all that time???? Those who knew him will understand
I have passed on a link to this site, to a very old friend of his, Nick (Skippy, a New Zealander) who I work offshore with
Im pretty sure he is now chasing young ladies behind the pearly gates
RIP mate
