Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Ill make this quick...

People keep telling me this young lad is in the SBS and asking my opinion on it...

    He's 20 years of age,
Joined the Royal Marines at aged 16,
Everybody seems to know and accept he's in the Special Boat Service (as in it's no secret)

My question is this feasible? Wouldn't a lot more experience be required to be accepted?

    Thanks in advance
  2. I'm sure the usual suspects will be on soon to have a go but:

I was recently at a friends repatriation at Hereford. I was amazed at the apparent youth of some of the blokes I was seeing.

I think with all the armour and tabbing it's a younger mans job these days.

Most of the Troopers I saw were in their early 20s.
  3. At 20, he wouldn't be the youngest ever.

Why are people asking your opinion on this?

If you believe his auto-biography (and i have no reason not to), Duncan Falconer was very young when he joined the SBS, straight from completing his commando course.
  5. Ok thanks for the replys. It's not so much i doubt it, it was the fact everyone seems to know and brag about it (i was under the impression you were meant to keep it a secret?)

    Fair enough though!

People were asking me as have relatives in the Military and am due to start 2weeks today (finally!)
  6. buzz is there are plenty of sprogs cutting round age 23-24
  7. I understand aged 24 - 30 makes sense . . . 20 just sounded pretty young!
  8. it is feasable mate.
  9. Fair play to him then,

Ill stay on his good side!
  10. To go for selection you need to have served 2 years minimum, and then pass selection. So it is possible, but he'd be very young.
