Novel use of the word “elite” to describe Smirnoff and Johnnie Walker. Wouldn’t use either to wash my dog! Still 300 possible recruits for the special military operation…
Have a look here: Brands

They have some of the best whiskies in the world, and if you wash your dog in Johnnie Walker Blue Label, then you've outed yourself as that fat bloke who won the UK's largest ever Euromillions and gave money to the SNP.

The exit of Diageo will very mildly inconvenience the 'rich' in Russia (they'll just fly everything in from China and Dubai - as many are already doing with sanctioned goods), but it may annoy the middle classes when their preferred tipple goes from US$30 to US$100 a bottle for Red Label. (they start getting drinkable at Green Label, and Blue is v.v. pleasant indeed). It also leads the way for other luxury booze makers to pull out of Russia without the fear that one of the largest global players was just waiting to steal their market share.

Well that was the bit he missed wasn;t it, the placing on a war footing of our industry (and he said it was 1937) of course we have no real way of ramping up heavy equipment because we have no heavy industry..if we started taking loses like Ukraine who is going to build or replace our kit.
It could also be that he is aware of the problems and sees mobilisation as the most efficacious route to rectify the situation.

In general terms it's awfully convenient that someone's always making a crap portrait 'phone video of nothing in particular a few minutes/seconds before something interesting yet apparently unexpected happens to happen in the field of view, like...

I watched that too. When he responded that it was collateral damage from an attacked on weapons stores delivered by the US and Europe, I always wish the journalist’s line of questioning would be ‘well those weapons wouldn’t be being supplied if Russia hadn’t invaded’ and follow on with questioning the Russia’s reasons for the war and it being their actions causing the deaths of thousands.
You and me both Brother.

Shitty behaviour should be called out by journo's, esp when its a Nation.

Not that it's Journo's job to grow a spine, It's the Political class's

Report to Congress on Middle East, North African Implications of War in Ukraine - USNI News

Russia’s war against Ukraine has both direct and indirect effects on the countries of the MENA region, imposing costs on the region’s populations and posing dilemmas for its leaders. The Russia-Ukraine war and its side effects amplify the risk of instability in the MENA region and introduce new complexities to some regional relationships. The most practical and immediate implications may come as a result of fiscal, societal, and humanitarian effects in the MENA region, particularly through energy and food commodity market changes.

  • Many MENA countries are net importers of food products and agricultural commodities, and several rely on imports from Russia and Ukraine that Russia’s invasion and blockade of Ukraine’s Black Sea ports have disrupted. Higher food prices and limited commodity availability are creating economic, public health, and political challenges in some MENA countries. Increased humanitarian needs in Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon, compounded by food and energy price inflation, are generating corresponding calls for increased donor contributions. The Administration has pledged to increase food assistance for some affected countries, including Yemen, amid competing needs in other areas of the world.
  • The Biden Administration has sought diplomatic and energy market support from MENA partners in responding to the war. These partners’ responses have varied, as governments have considered their discrete interests, priorities, and ties to Russia and the United States. Higher energy prices in 2022 are putting pressure on energy importers like Jordan and creating opportunities for exporters like Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Some regional governments may seek to use their relative coordination with or resistance to U.S. requests as leverage in discussions with the United States on other issues. Congress may assess the responsiveness, alignment, and needs of U.S. partners in the region as it considers the Administration’s proposals for foreign assistance, defense aid, and arms sales.
  • Russia’s military presence and the operations of Russian private military companies in the MENA region reportedly have not changed significantly since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, though the press has reported some personnel movements. Congress and the Administration may continue to monitor the presence and operations of Russian forces, along with the war’s second-order effects on Russia’s defense exports and security ties to the MENA region.
  • Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and U.S. efforts to coordinate multilateral responses invite scrutiny of MENA countries’ defense and security ties to Russia, their economic and energy cooperation with Moscow, their positions on sanctions against Russian targets, and their diplomatic posture in international institutions. Emergent dynamics (e.g., the decision by some U.S. regional partners to abstain from U.N. votes related to Russia’s actions in Ukraine) may be rooted in deeper shifts and may outlast the immediate conflict.

Napoleon I think?
Yes, Napoleon.

It was subsequently re-quoted by many different leaders. Many online sources also attribute it to Sun Tzu, which anyone owning a copy of Art of War can easily check as false.

Sun Tzu (who may have actually been a collection of military thinkers), wrote a few points about taking advantage of your enemy's weaknesses, but taking advantage of his mistakes wasn't one of them.

So Putin has made the decision to starve the Ukrainians into submission, and is using this man to eat all their food?

While it is easy to poke fun at the fat bloater, he's not there to do log runs around the front line: he's there to engineer the slaughter of Ukrainian men and women (and children).

Hopefully he'll catch an Excalibur round by the end of the week. If the Ukrainian gunners are clever, they'll paint a pie and some chips on the shell: the fat bástard will waddle out and catch it with his gob.
And explode all over Eastern Ukraine? Covering it in a thin layer of goo.... what sort of fiend are you?

If they get him he's going to resemble this,
But how can his subordinate s take him seriously looking like a blimp

Maybe in your day, bud, but I never met anyone who actually drank any form of Johnnie Walker until I went your side of the pond, and I grew in the garden village of Paisley.
It's certainly not drunk in Ayrshire after they pulled out of Kilmarnock, Left a nasty taste in more ways than 1 there rubbed more salt into the wound by opening up the new Jonny walker tourist trap in Edinburgh when it was an Ayrshire brand from the start.

I don't think it will make a blind bit of difference to the average Russian turpsnugder who'll just carry one downing vodka with screen wash chasers though

But will the global grain shortage impact on the making of booze though?

In what sense? Amineh Kakabeveh is a Swedish citizen and elected member of their parliament. Whilst Erdogan has demanded her extradition to Turkey that would violate her civil rights as a Swedish citizen who has not broken any of their laws. As I said the agreement is pretty thin gruel which shows how little leverage and how much Erdogan needs the support of the West in general.
I don't know. Possibly the argument that her concerns (valid though they may be) don't come close to balancing the protection that NATO membership confers under present or long-term conditions in that part of the world?
It'll all come out in some mealy-mouthed political statements in the near future.

Black Label's pretty well the market leader everywhere I've been outside the UK, for those not addicted to the local brands which can come in a plastic bag, or spelled: 'Jonny Warker'. It'll hit.

Would that the British government could acquire such spine.
