Russian Surveillance Aircraft lost at sea off Syria

You do know how SAM employment works don't you? I taught it for a while, I've even given the @KGB_residents Lessons in SAM 101, would you like some? The responsibility rests with the Fire Unit Commander
Would that be the same KGB Liar who claims to have been an AD officer, or one of the other liars masquerading as him?

Well, I was replying to someone who said the IDF had used a Russian a/c to mask their movements.
I know some delicate snowflakes are desperate to score a point over me, but I wasn't the source of the original comment.

It was my chum RoyalGreenJacket.

I've never claimed to be an expert in air warfare of any kind, I was just commenting on what someone else has said.

In short a swing and a miss, champ.

Odd that so many people don't seem to have noted his post. The whiff of purple smoke is strong...
Ah, the old "it wasn't me guv" approach (which may well be correct in this case). It normally works if used without sarcasm or abuse as long as the "victim" allows it to instead of perpetuating it.

That's the fellow, or more correctly the St Perterburg collective. If 'he' was a real AD specialist he wouldn't pass the basic operators course in the RAF

I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to say here.
Please, don't bother explaining.

'He' told me he'd served 4 years and graduated from the PVO academy - with 'his' level of knowledge God help us all! Explains why the Soviets and their puppets are so good at shooting down their own and passing civil aircraft though.....

Even if the IL-20 had been doing everything right, they still have to deal with the ‘sting’ in the S-200’s tail. The warhead can be command detonated - the Russians way of getting round Western countermeasures. The Russians have had plenty of fratricide over the years when correctly squawking planes have been zapped by their own AD units doing that. Fire a salvo in the general direction of a return and press the BANG button when the blips merge. It’s one of ours? Shrugski.

If the Syrian Engagement Controller couldn't tell the difference between low-level fast movers working a target zone and a slow moving high-level sigint aircraft that according to the rules should have been using IFF (actually SSR) they really shouldn't be in the job - but as the IDF had already fucked-off before the Coot pitched-up I suppose the point is moot. Don't the height-finding bits of Soviet radars work FFS? We cracked that tec in 1940

Thinking about it the Russians should also have informed the Syrian AD people of the aircraft's flightplan - so either the Russians fucked-up the co-ord or the Syrian AD Notification Center fucked-up passing on the message, or the Engagement Controller fucked-up the routing and recognition thing. Whatever, unprofessional clowns.

Unprofessional clowns.
Internal leaks suggest 50% of Russian aircraft losses in their various ‘holidays’ over the last decade or so have been - comrade Colonel! something on the radar! Quick! Fire!
What do you expect? It’s a good model for poorly trained conscripts. The one technical guy turns everything on and slaves the launcher to the radar.... ok, Oleg - if yiu see anything, shot at it, press this big button when the blips merge. You could train a chimp to do that. See airliners over the Ukraine.

I wrote about it previously - Putin's Syrian adventure is very doubtful. There is no clear plan - how Russia would react on US/UK/French/Israeli air-raids.
Moron Putin in his typical idiotic manner bleats about tragic chain of unpredictable events, while the situation is easily predictable and later or sooner it would happen.
Putin cowardly wait for new instructions from Israel and will not dare to make the only logical steps
- supply Syria with Iskander missiles to give an ability for very painful retaliatory strike in the case of new Israeli air raids.
- supply Syria with S-300 AD system
- make a warning to Israel that Russian AD will target and down any approaching Israeli war planes.

oh my God!!!!! it's alive!!!! It's Antisemitic KGB on shift today I see. Why the long pause before coming to the Motherland's defence? Long briefing session in St Petersburg? It must have been hell debating how to spin this one. Glad to see you went for the traditional 'threaten the Jooz,' always turns out well for the Arabs.........

This ones English is as delightfully fractured as ever.
Compared to the other ones.

One guess is that if they did fire on IDF it might turn out badly for those firing, as it has done before.

Another observation, the threats of retaliation that were made by Putin prior to the declared strike by NATO allies on Syrian chemical facilities never in fact transpired. The strikes took place as promised and the facilities were reduced to rubble. So much for those warnings, and statements that all incoming missiles would be shot down.

Oh, dear.
You gleefully jumped in with both feet to criticise my comment about the IDF using a Ru a/c to mask its movements, but landed head first when you didn't spot I was commenting on somebody else's claim.

Time to stop digging.
RoyalGreenJacket stated what the Russians had claimed.
You then jumped in feet first taking your usual opportunity to have a pop at the IDF by stating it as gospel.
"It's hardly rocket science and the blame lies with the IDF".

Upgrading the Syrian ADS? Would Russia really want one of their latest systems in use by the Syrians? It is unlikely that the Israeli’s will cease to strike at any provocation, and given the Syrians latest demonstration of expertise the results may well affect Russian arm’s sales.

Given the Syrians inability to pay Russia would also have to fund those systems and since money is tight in the Russian defence budget it seems unlikely that this will happen.

Remedial training with the Syrians, or a change of ROE to stop them shooting down Russian aircraft is undoubtedly on the to do list. It is likely, if not already the case, that any Syrian activity with Iran and Hezbollah is now kept as far away as possible from Russian forces as the Israeli’s have a reputation for aggressively going after any perceived threats.
