Russian Northern Fleet In The News

"A crack Marine Company of the Rusian Northern Fleet arrived at Kevichi airfield near Vladivostok on Wednesday.

"A long-haul Il-62 plane has brought 200 servicemen for their joining exercises Mobility-2004, a main part of which begins on June 18, the chief of the Pacific Fleet's press centre, Alexander Kosolapov, told Itar-Tass.


"About 8000 motorised infantry, paratroopers and Marines, as well as 100 tanks, armoured veicles and trucks will be moved (sic) the Russian Far East by Friday.""Northern+Fleet"+Marines&hl=en


From the Interfax News Service, 29 June 2004:

"A ballistic missile was launched from the Russian Northern Fleet's nuclear submarine Yekaterinburg on Tuesday."

It was fired from a submerged position in the Barents Sea and struck its target in Kamchatka.
They fire 3 different types of missile. One from a sub, one crusise type from a Bison and one ICBM. Tesing to see if they can extent the shelf life for another 20 years.
