Russia is becoming a police state. Thought rather 'IS' than 'IS becoming'.

BBC News - US concern over Russian activist's detention in Kiev

The US embassy in Moscow has expressed concern over the detention of a Russian opposition activist in Kiev and his transfer to Moscow.
...
Leonid Razvozzhayev was apparently snatched off the street on Friday in the Ukrainian capital as he sought UN advice about political asylum.

He is accused by Russian investigators of plotting mass disorder in Russia.

Mr Razvozzhayev insists he was kidnapped and tortured but Russian officials say he handed himself in.
...
The activist is being held at Moscow's Lefortovo prison where he was visited by human rights activists on Tuesday evening.
...
He reportedly told them he had been bundled into a van by masked men in Kiev, driven across the border into Russia and tortured in a cellar.

By his own account, he signed a confession while in handcuffs before being driven on to Moscow.

A Russian TV crew also managed to film Mr Razvozzhayev outside a Moscow court, when he could be heard shouting that he had been kidnapped in Ukraine and tortured for two days.
Just wait and something similar will happen in London. As for so called Russian Law Enforcement structures then they should be called Law Violating ones.

Oh well, it took us the best part of a decade to get rid of Abu Hamza, at least the Ivans are prepared to take action when presented with a pain in the arse.

The same way as the UK is democratic...
Very much so redshift. At least Putin got a majority of votes/duma seats for him to take the presidency. We cannot say either is true about Cameron.

An the KGB would have loved the surveillance set-up that we have in this country.

I would say that Russias status as a police state is fairly obvious and has been for a considerable time. As for Europe the various Govts' ever increasing desire for more information on their subjects could almost warrant our status as a collective police state. With some member countries a bit more inclined to spying on/controlling the people and others a bit less inclined.

Talk about the Kettle calling the Pot!

Quote: BBC News - US concern over Russian activist's detention in Kiev

and just what is the UK and USA doing with Julian Assange? - He is being forcefully detained with the risk of being extradited to the USA without charge, Lawyers or any other form of legal representation on a very flimsy accusation that would otherwise be thrown out of court.!

The UK is becoming a Police state - Blind Pensioners are Tasered in broad daylight, people are shot in the head and killed for running away from undercover policemen who fail to identify themselves as such, Video cameras watch your every move, your calls and emails are monitored and the rights of the common people are being eroded bit by bit under the pretence of the war on terror!- The Armed forces are also being reduced and made more innefective......no chance of a Military coup then.....

No shit - I've never seen so many bloody cameras anywhere else. It's like being one big "reality" show. Also, you would think that with all those cams around, the felons would be instantly caught!

So as far as the brains trust on this thread is concerned when it comes to civil rights, freedom of expression, the accountability of the State and it's agencies there is precious little difference between Cameron's Britain and Putin's Russia?

What a buch of spolied, ignorant and silly little children you are.

You could always live in Lima, Lima; I'm betting you'd be clamouring to return to the nasty UK rather quickly.

What a stupid thread.

Russia IS a police state, and never stopped being one. The pretense of democracy is laughable, the transparency of the state spying services operating against all their supposed 'allies' is there for all to see, and if you say anything against 'King Vlad the narcissist' you get thrown in the slammer or bumped off in a 'robbery gone wrong'. If you have any doubt, as Anna Politkovskaya and countless journalists, or even our friend Litvinenko.

The only real differences between Russia 50 years ago and today are technology, new found oil wealth and the average man (as opposed to the Party apparatchiks) can make his fortune and travel more freely - if he plays by the rules. Everything else is the same.

I believe they have shunted some young lasses off to Siberia for making some "off-colour" (shit) music in a church!

And if your band barged their way into St. Paul's, gave an impromptu performance and videoed it, the Met. would have a giggle and ask if they could have a signed copy of the single?
