Due to the MoD's purdah on the participation in civil/public events six weeks prior to a General Election, rather than risk a cancellation at the last minute, the Freedom of the District of Purbeck Ceremony in Wareham has been postponed to 1100hrs Sunday 11 Jul 10.
The Freedom of Purbeck is being granted to the Old Boys' Association of the Junior Leaders' Regiment, RAC.
This must be a 'first ever' for an old boys' association, so is quite a unique event for former Junior Leaders. The OBA is also holding a golf day on 9 Jul and the AGM and dinner night will be on 10 Jul. Mil accommodation is available for males and camping/caravan facilities are also available in Stanley Barracks.
The Armour Centre is also being granted the Freedom of Purbeck at the same time. On parade will be two marching divisions of 90 soldiers each, the Light Cavalry Band and 8 vehicles including a Challenger 2 MBT. Following the parade there will be a BBQ and drinks on Wareham Recreation Ground.
