Royal Tournament

#1
Recently bought a DVD on The Royal Tournament and realised how much of a crying shame it is we dont do it anymore. Why did we lose it? Probably money yes, but why the hell cant it be funded by the national lottery fund? Oh thats right because theyre too busy giving money to Man U , because its like they need it. Surely the Government could fund it? No because they are too busy spending money on ridiculously childish party political broadcasts involving reptiles! ( Rant rant rant.....)

Just to add, was anyone here ever involved with the Tournament? I personally wasnt but wouldnt mind hearing views and experiences/stories etc..........

In Belfast they spent something like £60K on a large ceramic fish yet refused to give money to a home for ex-servicemen in the U.K beacuse it was'nt a viable cause. You have to be a far left wing multi-racial lesbian feminist vegitarian artist to stand a chance with the lottery!!

I was working there 1989 when i was a Junior Leader. We were the arena party and i can honestly say, it was one of the best times i had while serving. It was especially good watching Anthea Turner get blown up from the back of a bedford, and chuckling at the aftermath. Stuck up b1tch she was.

Is this a euphamism?

I'm seriously fantasizing now.

:D

She was there with Jenny Powell for some Saturday morning kids show. Jenny Powell was really nice and chatted to everyone whereas Turner was a right cow, bossing people around and being quite nasty. When she got blown up, she cried "My face, my face. It's my career" or some shoite like that, much to the amusement of us present. It's probably on You Tube, i've never bothered to look.

Definately a good few weeks on the pop! Had a great time espcially in the bar where it was Army + Navy and Softshites Corner for the Crabs.

You can post "signed" or "petition signed" all you like. Show me one of those petitions that's ever changed anything and I'll show you a decent Milli Vanilli song. It's gone I'm afraid... great, great times, but it's not coming back, for many reasons.

Scorched Earth: Yes, I did manage to do the tournament, 1994, remember the opening involving the 4 horses of the apocalypse (4 big guys with surprisingly good papier maiche costumes on shire horses!) being chased away by a band of drummers from all NATO countries marching abreast. It got a standing ovation every night.
Shame the real NATO doesn't work so well together!

I also remember a group of (Danish?) horsemen who rode standing up on horseback. They were good until the 4th night when they crashed into each other. That was an awkward 5 mins.

The Navy lads who ran the gun bars upstairs were top lads... I was policing the show all week and they stayed open quite late first night... it was a bit noisy and obvious so I knocked on the back door and had a quiet word.
After that they stayed open for the rest of the week without any problems until whatever time they liked. It's great when you can rely on people to police themselves. Probably a good job too, with the size of some of them.
We had as many soft drinks as we liked for free too any time of night, and it was needed... that was a hell of a hot week in London.

The Wafus would hate to be called Pompey. The FAA had their own crew who trained at Deadloss as you said until Deadloss closed and they moved the track to Shitehawk.
Shame they had to close the show.
