The cuts are always sold as the remainder of the Army will be fully funded and kitted out... until they want to make more cuts.

I think the 2003 invasion of Iraq involved 20000 soldiers. Good luck sustaining operations long term when you have just 55000 bods.
Can't be much worse than we are now? The last cuts have rinsed the CS/CSS, while leaving a massive amount of useless combat arms.

Over half the infantry Bns has nothing more than a TCV to move it around.

I seem to remember that back in 1993 in the immediate aftermath of the savage Options For Change Defence Budget Cuts, reports were going around that the U.N. Mission in Bosnia was leaving the Army over-stretched.

Of course it can be worse. As Molders said in 1993 there were savage cuts, I joined in 1995 the army has lost around another 25k since that time. I believe the Army has shrank almost every year since the 60s. You get a load of buzzwords like "streamlined" until the next round of cuts.

Good ping snipes.

While those outside para billets, there is still the possibility to do it. I've never seen it done, merely heard of it being a possibility but kit like VIKING can be para dropped along with the driver (albeit outside of the vehicle!!) so the possibility is there. Also as you’ll be aware the RAF is in the process of acquiring new airframe for drops. Google A400M and note how one will be assigned to drops.
By the way that doesn't make being a driver any more glamorous, it's still a morale hoover of an SQ at times. Speaking of SQs, Hopefully FCF sees the RM Police specialisation binned. Royal Naval police get just as involved with misconduct issues so it should all be left to them in my opinion. Another hoofing addition to the stores is off the shelf ATPIAL PEQ-15’s. Which will be mega.

In SFSG we fitted ATPIAL PEQ-15 and we were dropping targets at 300m+ with ease when it was pitchers, to roll these out Corps wide along with a decent surefire weapon mounted white/black light torch is a top idea. Big winner.Supressors are absolutely essential too as well the difference in sound when firing immediately tells you where the enemy threat is, particularly in urban scenarios.
Poole capability cell produces a paper on kit procurement and why we need to ditch certain things and modernise. Hopefully more will trickle.

CTC is rats with ROP by the way. Shock of capture is too much for some.
ROP?

Recruit Orientation Phase.

Royal Marines Recruit Training has been adapted to allow for a graduated conditioning phase lasting 4 weeks on entry to CTCRM – the Recruit Orientation Phase (ROP) – which will culminate in the Commando Aptitude Assessment (CAA). Acronym galore.

Options for Change was horrendous. I think that the Army never really got over it. We (RRF) lost our third battalion. Bit of an insult for them after Granby.

I remember Dad (who had only just left the Army a year before) shouting "Bloody Disgusting!" at the T.V. when the then Defence Secretary Tom King made the Options For Change Defence Budget Cuts public in 1991......3 years later came Front Line First.

Can you imagine Cummings in the National Service era? He would have been the university-educated, chippy malcontent who spent most of his time being beasted around the parade square carrying the drill Vickers gun above his head while the RSM offered gentle words of encouragement
FOC, etc, etc...

Gotcha. I think the Army has something similar, J (Joining) week, happy to be corrected on that one. Drop out rate is still around two thirds, so I am told.

I’m not sure if there are any late HCav generals serving - most of the generals are over in Andover, mostly terribly clever and terribly thrusting. So how come we’re in sh1t state? Go figure.
Not that clever obvs..

Racist.

Joking aside Harold you told @Dan Gleebles you served in 10 PARA in the mid 90s mate and now you are full of gen about a subject you know nothing about. Your knowledge of who gets loaded onto a BPC is dated.

I am a SERVING Royal Marine and you are an old fat bloke who did a bit of time in the TA. I know what I’ve been told. Any issues PM me and we’ll arrange a meet.

Big time internet hardman,

And a £20k FRI for GD RMs (Mne and Cpl) announced today.

Bit of a kick in the slats for all those who were made to SQ early... (unless by GD they mean not SF or BS).
