19yo female recently been looking into roles so I’m prepared when I visit the Army centre and know roughly what regiment I’m aiming to work towards. Read over The British Army website and other sources mulitiple times but can’t seem to find clear answers to my questions so here I am.

Cut a long story short I wanted to work as a ‘Gunner Artillery Logisitc Specialist’. My basic understanding is that it would include transporting supplies and ammunition to our soldiers. Ideally I’d like to work a job where I’m delivering supplies to soldiers on the front line, I want the excitement of being in the war zone and the combat training without being in infantry as I don’t feel it’s a suitable role for me. But also really want to deliver supplies for humanitarian aid.

What are the roles of a gunner artillery logistic specialist mainly? Driving? Unloading and loading? Combat skills? Will I be transporting supplies and not working in a warehouse? And will I be sent to war zones in order to supply materials to infantry? Is it a higher risk role?

And also which role in the army would I need to be in, in order for me to deliver supplies to people in need etc? Or is this more a charity job than The British Army? Am I looking at the completely wrong roles. I’m fairly sure I want to work in the RLC but I’m not sure if I’m way off with my expectations.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, thanks

Its a Royal Artillery role not an RLC trade.

Top tip, don't be calling any lance bombardiers "mate" on WhatsApp.

Why not visit your local AFCO and talk to the one of the staff, or failing that have a look at your local Reserves unit, along with your CV?

Logistics is involved from A to Z of all deployments and is just as important as any.

How about a local AAC unit? I was just trying to convince my sister whom is your age of doing something with her life bearing in mind she flopped her A levels...

What GCSEs and/or A levels do you have?

From said poster

"Hi sorry it wouldn’t let me reply on the thread yet! I think I do need to go down to the centre as I just have too many questions and the more I search online the more confused I’m getting! Just wanted to be prepared and have some idea of what I’m talking about. My main focus is I want to train in combat and be deployed to war zones or disaster zones but delivering supply’s and ammunition. Just can’t seem to find which role that fits in if any."

Umm... @dingerr asked a very valid starting question, what is your education standard current and what are you studying if anything?

"I have 7 GCSEs A-C but no college qualifications. Currently just working in retail store."

Not a bad start, but A levels would really be a decent start, and considering the most important is Mathes & English (didn't specific) and Science is another bonus
