Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi I have just been accepted into the tankies an i need to move my family across to BFG in Fally. I will be moving across in the middle of March and need to know what the best way to get there by ferry is.

Anyone who lives there or has been there in the past using this service could you please let me know your opinions on this.

I am looking at going from either Scotland or as far north of England as possible.

  2. harwich hamburg then the e2 down the road about 45 mins away. the camp is 5 ins from the autobahn. dont know if there is a sailing from rosyth to hamburg

  3. do you know which company this is with or a websit edirect to harwich ferry port. Thanks

  4. Hate to be bearer of bad news - and possibly double whammy -

Harwich Hamburg no longer exists as a routecCurrently is Harwich to west coast of Denmark. Alternative is down to the Dutch ports and then slog it.

One word of advice - be v. careful of the speeding laws in Holland - they've got far more strict. Knew 1 Sgt. who was bombing it down got hauled over and told his car would be taken off him. He lived to tell teh tale - but they will now do it!!

Second piece of bad news is if you off to the tankies they're due to move in March time anyway - we get the guys from Celle so will be 2 x Inf and 1 x Cav for Christmas hootenany down at Cha Chas (you'll quickly get the briefing notes!!)

Enjoy it but has to be said there's zero for families round f**ing B

  5. I'm a southerner (Live about half hour from Dover) So I go to Calais along the coast through France, Belgium, Holland, then Germany its not a bad drive but you get a bit shattered by the end of it, Have tried the Dunkerque bit, longer on the ferry admitedly but the port is in the arse end of nowhere so your driving for miles till your back on the motorway.

And reference the Dutch, they do like their on the spot fines, got billed €130 for doing just under 100mph, and they will happily drive you to as many banks as it takes to find one that accepts your card (Was hoping that I'd get let off because the bank refused to give me money on a Visa card but got escorted to 6 different banks till she found one that worked), took over an hour as well.

  6. going to the Scots DG's who are there for the foreseable future and thanks for the ferry and speeding info

  7. You're not going to the tankies then, Do they not teach you regimental history in Basic training.

Im out of date with travel to and from fally, quickest way was just to drive through the tunnel. The fally-calais rally we called it.
I am suprised nobody has told you to follow the signs for Ausfahrt, If they do tell them to do one.

When you get there give my regards to the provo Sgt- Big Chief Cheesy toes.

All the best mate, you've made a grand choice

  8. dont know about regimental history but they teach you nothing about the RAC in the infantry [which is where i am transferring from after 13 yrs as a grunt.

  10. See that you are moving your family across, have you got your MQ address yet?, if so get someone, if possible, to go and check it out for you as there are some that I wouldn't let my dog stay in never mind my wife!

Don't listen to people that say there is nothing to do in Fally, its just a case of getting off youre ARRSE and looking around. SDG have an excellent reputation as a unit, you should enjoy Fally.
