Oh I do love my Radio 4, stereotype that I am, but these two programmes were particulary excellent.

An essay by Jay Winter on the 'Lost Generation' of Word War One. You can download the transcript from this page - it was originally broadcast on Broadcasting House on Sunday morning, and I just had to stop washing the kitchen floor to give his thoughts the attention he deserved.

And then on Friday there was an excellent play about Rorke's Drift - a few of the soldiers, including Harry Hook, meeting up for a fictional reunion.
