Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Hi, I'd like some advice regarding the TA and "unspent" criminal convictions. Are these an absolute bar to joining or is there some discretion possible?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Not absolutely. Yes. Which is what I expect you wanted to hear.

However, some security cleared (or would require clearance once you had completed basic training) roles may be barred to you and your local units may have sufficient applicants that they would prefer you to come back when you would be less of an admin burden to them.

  3. great, thanks for your reply. my convictions will be "spent" next year so i'll probably wait until then

  4. You'll still need to declare them when joining, even if spent.
