Rise of the Woodpikey.

I would be happier with an Intergas combi, jetted for LPG.

Much simpler to operate, and safer, with thermostatic control, the more the log burner puts out, the less time the boiler will be on, but at the same time, if she can't be bothered with the fire, she'll have the radiators and hot water.

Unfortunately we’re kind of stuck with what’s there. I agree, LPG is definitely the way ahead, but that’s gonna involve serious work.

It’s a rental that’s on a deal that’s too good to be true so messing about with the heating isn’t ok the cards.

Thankfully we get free logs so she’ll be alright.

A mate of mine had one that would run all night on a full load of softwood post pointings when turned right down, so hardwood fuel should last longer.
Have you asked the owners how it does?

Been running that 'combo for years, top tip, fit the largest, bestest insulated, hot water cylinder you can find.

This acts as a heat store, true, to get up to temperature requires additional fuel input but this balances out when the system gets up to temperature as you need a remarkably little amount of fuel (Dependent on calorific content 'natch.) to maintain it at temperature.

Burning used vegetable oil in a " desert cooker" inside the stove in my workshop , ( a can filled with sand ) this gets about 100 deg C on the stove top, just right for a bit of warm on a chilly evening. A ball of newspaper soaked in oil on top to start it.

Got a good supply of free used veg oil so might as well use it.

Reckon I’ll be alright for another couple of months.

Want saw porn? Try one of these. Many years ago a much younger and thinner PFG was planning to emigrate to Canada with 3 others to start up a heli operation. One of these beauties was part of the business plan.

A Loach?. That's a bit puny. Real men use Skycranes for this.
