Interesting article, wondering what other arrse readers think:

HEIDELBERG, Germany — Soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan to bases in Europe won’t turn wrenches for at least 45 days under a new U.S. Army Europe plan to reintegrate soldiers into family and garrison life.

  2. That may be the case for the shermans, but Brit squaddies will probably get back and be told to start preparing their kit for a tour somewhere, or be given a travel warrant to get their arrses off to some course.
  3. Or put on day on day of guard for three weeks, then have two days leave, cut short because the clerk forgot to forward joining instructions for the course that Shotgun mentions above :D
  4. Or get arms plotted to NI if they are Inf
  5. Or have to go back into work because no-one did their job while they were away.....
  6. I seem to remember that some of the Spams have been out there for a year. They deserve all the time off they can get. Not saying that the Brits don't, but a whole year in the sandy sh*thole must be soul destroying.
  7. It will either be the best time you have, or the worst time you have.

Treat it as an experience, and don't tell your granny what you did when you get back.

I Work with quite a lot of Spams and their standard tour is like 12 months, zero R&R and so on. The Spams deserve their rest, they're getting divorced and dumped all over the shop. And they only joined for the college credits...
