Return of the "Good old days/"

I was shocked a few months ago to see "Sea- coalers" shoving old pushbikes uphill from the beach with a couple of sacks of coal dust over the crossbars.... not seen them since the early 60s.

Today I saw a rag and bone man on a cart pulled by 2 horses, the cart loaded with scrap metal..... I suppose it saves him the bother of nicking diesel.
Used to see them collecting the coal all the time in the early 80s as well.

Mind you this was up by South Shields so that might explain it.
Last time I saw a Raggybo man was last week
I havent seen one for a couple of months...but apparently he's a regular on the estate, has been for years!
