Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Apparently, any unit that has any captured Iraqi vechs displayed as gate guards etc... has to return them back to their original owners, due to lack of equipment - thats where the Chinese amby at Strensall has gone.

    Anybody heard anything on this?

or have I been had?
  2. Thought they were getting American equipment, remember seeing a list floating about on the internet including stuff like M60 and M1 tanks IIRC.
  3. There are zillions of tanks and APCs in Iraq - its just that the locals ripped out the batteries and small arms 5 minutes after they were abandoned.
  4. That's interesting...some Iraqi-driven tanks (T55s) made an appearance in Baghdad on election day, and the official explanation of a plane that arrived in Beirut with $300 million in cash and some Lebanese MP aboard was that the cash was being used to buy armour for the Iraqi army, as the UN rules on the oil revenue mean it can't be used for weapons. Strange to tell, here we are several months on, and they are trying to recover clapped-out gate guards?

I wonder who got all the cash?
