Rethinking Islam

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. This is a very interesting article from Newsweek suggesting that a more tolerant brand of Islam is making serious headway in the Muslim world.

Some of the more informed experts have been saying this since the 1990s - that in fact, the desperate tactics used by AQ are a sign of its own weakness, not its strength.

Hadith and the New Face of Islam

  2. NO NO NO -

"round em up, stickem in a field and .................. " (Cant remember the general's name that Kenny Everett played)
  3. To go off on a slight tangent, there's a very interesting article on al-Sharif and his feud with al-Zawahiri (among other things) in the New Yorker here.

    Apologies, it's rather long..

Back on topic - sort of - has anyone read this book lately?
  4. With Saudi Arabia and Iran having spent $billions on promoting their respective brands of extreme Islam, moderate views are not going to have any impact in the forseeable future....

Glad to see the moderates are kicking back after years of being shouted down by a smallish number of ignorant fanatics. Also not suprised that the Turks are the ones to do it. Given that they are already far more use than some of the countries in the EU, accelerate the acceptance process and give them a more powerful platform to work from. May not dent the radicals in Iran, but may mean western muslims are less susceptable to suicide bombing their fellow citizens.
