Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Do you have to get permission to travel to Dublin, or are you not allowed to go at all?
    what are the exact rules?

  2. I cannot remember exactly though I think it is OK.

Speak to your Admin Office who will have all the regulations for you.

  3. This is what was put in my unit orders this month:

LEAVE, TEMPORARY DUTY AND OTHER VISITS TO NORTHERN IRELAND (NI) AND THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND (ROI)

    References:

    a. Army Leave Manual, Annex U.

    b. JSP 440 Defence Manual of Security - Paras 07160-07205 (incl Annexes).

Under no circumstances are soldiers to visit NI or ROI without having received permission to do so. JSP 440 applies to all service personnel, covers all types of leave(including compassionate) and duty visits by service sports teams.

Units should note the prevalent state existing throughout NI is CONDITION RESTRICTED.

So you do need permission to visit Dublin
