Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. im 16, im joining REME in september... im currently a lance jack at the "RGJ" ( were not the rifles till june.. i think to do with tight MOD funding once again).. any way ive took a real interest to RGJ and i was wondering ami able to be a REME RGJ soldier.. or para or any other regiment.. wots the deal and options.

please tell me the regiments i am able to be strung to while being vehicle mechanic in REME
  2. No answers? Try the question again...

    ...In English!

  3. you could be attached to anyone, even NASA so the world really is your oyster. there is currently a hugh shortage of REME lads working with the RNLI at the moment so that might be an option as well.
  4. The world really is your oyster. If however you want to stay with one regiment you will probably have a problem with promotion. I am not sure on this but I think the RM have their own tradesmen. If you want to go the marine or para way they usually stay within the SF regiments (I think).

You can apply via your CO at whatever training establishment for an attachment to any regt you like. If your reasons are valid and there is a vacancy then you will be in with a chance.
If you go overboard about staying with a Unit then you can pretty much kiss goodbye to promotion, REME will boot you unless there is a specialist skill which they need.
    Good luck in the future.
  6. Maybe a MOD should move this into the REME forum, he may get more answers there??

e_coy_boy, i'm guessing that your an NCO in the ACF and your joining the REME as a junior.

What trade are you going to be in the REME??

As said by others, your prospects for posting in the REME are endless. Once you are qualified and you go to your first unit you will on average spend 3 years with a regiment/Bn and then move on to another. You can put in posting preferences and you could indeed request a posting to the RGJ or "the rifles" now but you may not be lucky enough to get the exact unit you want.

If you are interested in Para/RM then you can do P company or the AACC and there is a strong likelyhood that if you pass either of these you will serve as REME attached to an airborne or RM brigade unit. You will however always be a REME tradesman, you will not be a RGJ, Para or RM "soldier".

The posting you will be offered will depend on your trade as i said. If you are training to be an Armourer, Vehicle Mechanic, or Recovery Mechanic you will stand a good chance of been posted to an Armoured Infantry Bn is you so request it.

If your joining as a Technician of any kind you may find it less likely for a first posting.

Hope this helps you, like i say if this is moved into the REME forum there are plenty of guys on there that will offer you sound advice.
  7. Having had a flick through your other posts before i posted my reply i feel i may have wasted 5 minutes of my life.

if you enter the REME with the attitude and disregard for folk you have shown already i dont think your going to last 5 minutes in training, never mind at a working unit.....
  8. thanks for all the help guy's, im going to do vehicle mechanic's or possibly avionic's if i get the grades
