Reform the UN – but how?

#41
I was prompted to kick off this, in my view, important discussion because of a very enlightening book written by Carla del Ponte. This one:
BILD interview with Carla del Ponte - „The UN has failed“

The book is not yet available in English, but does bring up some very significant points.

The United Nations was formed just after WWII with the intention of doing much better than the doomed “League of Nations” in having a much greater impact/influence on world affairs and (hopefully) leading, at some time, to a sort of peace on the planet – with various countries carrying out their discussions about “differences” in the UN plenum and not on the battlefield.
United Nations - Wikipedia
In the meantime, the UN has been almost completely taken over by egocentric, immediate invested interests and, as such, has proved to be completely ineffectual in preventing even one death, by war, hunger or thirst, in all of the very many conflicts around the world that have occurred since the end of WWII.

In an increasingly tethered and international world, I believe it’s clear that there must be some sort of overarching, worldwide official organisation recognised by all to counter the current trend of nations simply embarking on destructive, and essentially counter-productive, wars to further their own self-serving ends, and in the process massacring thousands/millions of innocent folks along the way. Can that actually be what we mean when we talk about “humanity” and its basic principles?

The planet is going to shite! Astonishing environmental damage is done by unrelenting logging, destructive mountain-top mining, fracking, farming run-off devastating drinking-water, local wars, national wars, etc. All to enable international companies to grab a share of the profits going. There’s nothing to stop the “robber barons” from, quite literally, destroying the earth in their incessant greed for “more profit”. What can be done?

Is there a way, or method, to stop Capitalists from relentlessly and progressively making the earth uninhabitable by forming some sort of completely neutral and impartial (UN or all-nation) force that could, at the very least, diminish the impact of such impositions by interfering with the (Capitalist) interests represented by those national and international companies at present busy with destroying the world without any regard whatsoever for the future? Would such a force even be possible? The question is, really: “Are we prepared to defend our homeland (our planet) from the scourge of national and international companies wanting to make a profit from whatever they can?

I'd like to say that once I submitted this thread to ARRSE, I was effectively "off the air" for more than two hours. I couldn't connect to ARRSE or even the internet in that time. I don't know why, but make of that what you will.

I'm a complete nothing and an absolute nobody,
but did someone, somewhere decide that I shouldn't discuss this subject on ARRSE? Why would that be?

MsG
The only thing you have ever said that was true. Stop now while you're ahead.

Odd that Bugsy hasn't posted anything relevant on this thread, as he started it. I for one am eager to hear his ideas for reforming the UN.

Has Bugsy ever posted anything relevant? He only seems to post the proverbial "pointed stick" to poke at those who feel inclined to tell him his future. Let's face it, the shabby old twat can't tell you anything about his past, at least not without the odd embellishment, fabrication or downright lie!
He will be found dead one day, by Nottingham social services, surrounded by SWP leaflets, a 1960's keyboard with a bullshit icon on it, and a smoking desert eagle slipping from his withered fingers.
The urine-stained hovel he lived in will be granted level two protected status for five minutes or until somebody torches it. Members of Arrse will write in their memoirs about the mad old pigeon shouted and think of all those wonderful stories he used to tell. They will all reminisce until one says "he were a proper Kunt, that Bugsy" and all will say "aye" and then get rat-arsed.
He will be buried in a paupers grave on Lubyanka Square, where he can remonstrate with as many pigeons as he wishes, for eternity. We shall not see his ilk again (thank fook)

Hopefully, his headstone should read 'Here Lies An Anachronism'*.

Very clever. I prefer the epitaph "Here lies a lying bellend. Died on this day and others, from an overdose of self-induced bullshit.
