  1. Hi all, new to the site but hoping someone can help.

I'm just putting my life in order and ready to hand in my application and med forms but was hoping someone can advise at what point in the application are the referees contacted? My recruiter wasnt too sure.
Its just I could do with not telling my boss until at least medicals etc are passed if possible so as not to risk being sacked for some made up reason just for applying! Also if anyone knows at what point credit checks are done that'd be great - I have a £3.5k debt (engagement ring) which should be paid in full beginning of September (bonus money) but might look bad on a credit check until paid.

  2. If you don't want your boss to find out use a different referee (there is no definate job at the end of this process so don't jepordize your current employment), regarding chatting more in details about finances this will be done at the interview stages so if your finances will be sorted in a few months time there is nothing to worry about but disclose this in confident then with future finacial plans you have during basic if you get allocated. I can't believe for a minute your own Recruiter couldn't or wouldn't answer these basic questions.
  3. I have no idea but.....

3.5k engagement ring!!!!! Wow that must be some lucky girl, I'm jealous :(
  4. You will only get £50 when you porn it because he has buggered off with someone else.
  5. Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately twice I have been to my local recruitment office and the main recruiter has been interviewing other candidates or already with someone else so a TA member has answered my basic queries but was unsure on finer details. I am still awaiting a chance to get back to the recruitment office.
With regards to choosing another referee, I have worked for the same employer for many years, and my prior employer to this was a victim of the recession so no other work referee available. A little to old to put a school referee down, would hazard a guess that any teacher who knew me at school has passed on or passed away by now.
  6. She likes shiny things..... what can I say!
  7. Well some women me included are like magpies ha!
  8. What, Bird Brained and thieving
  9. Sums up a lot of women that sentence
  10. You could get your doctor to do a character reference if you have known him long enough. This is what I had to do, granted though, I did also manage to get a reference from a long ago employer. Do you have any "friends" of the family such as lawyers, teachers, nurses etc that can vouch for you?

I'm sure if you tell your recruiter you are having trouble getting references he will come up with something.
  11. I wouldn't stress on getting referees at this early stage, wait until you've spoken with a knowledgeable person in the office.
