Recruitment Shortfall

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. i was speaking to a recruiting stripey the other day & he was telling me that what with the new tv adverts & all the paper advertisement that the forces are/have been doing they were expecting a deluge of applicants to join up. :D :D :D :D

to date he said across the whole of the uk there have been just under 600 people applying to join at all levels/ranks.

so what does that tell us, is the youth of today or is it the way the army is portraying itself at present. :?: :?: :?: :?:

i took what he said as gospel but someone here may tell me different. :!: :!: :!: :!:
  2. When is that 6000 from? Start of new Ad campaign, January, this month?

I think it's the youth of today, theyre all soft.
  3. from when the campaign started i believe which is a few months now, but all the recruiting staff were told that they will be flocking to join after they have seen these adverts.......................NOT :!: :!: :!: :!:
  4. I'm going to apply to the Yorkshire Regiment after i finish my A-levels this june but i know what the recruiting officer means. when i mention to my friends i want to join the army, they cough and splutter about how i must be suicidal and that armys the wrong place to go if you want to live older than 19. it's not as friendly an idea getting sent to the Basra than it is working at Tesco's. i dont think people get the idea of patriotism or want to lead active lifestyles when they could alternatively sit and watch Eastenders every night for the rest of their lives.
  5. Is that 6000 applying for the ranks, officers, or both? And are they including the TA in that figure?

Surly the army isn’t expecting potential recruits to come pouring in on the strength of media advertisement alone?
If we want to improve our recruitment numbers then we need to have body’s out on the streets talking to people. Waiting for people to walk through the recruitment office door is not good enough IMHO.
  6. negative media exposure is something you will have to counter, i get it all the time when some people find out im in the ACF, i get a lot of bone questions about the Army, Abu Ghurab, squaddies beating up Iraqis, Deepcut you name it , i get them , so i would imagine the same is for you and the recruiters.
  7. All my mates laughed when i signed on the dotted line, but i've come out a lot better for it.

It says 600 hundred in the original post, so where is this six thousand bollox come from?
  8. You're right there Goku. The Socialist Workers Party and PETA put on better displays than the army in our town centre. Maybe there aren't enough of you now? A long, long time ago people came from all over to see the army display on rememberance Sunday. Fantastic kit on show. Us youths got to play with it as well. I think it went pear shaped during the NI affair. The squaddies queueing for ferries in Europe who were trying to look 'normal' were a bit of a laugh. Young man, short hair cut, alone in car, number plates that didn't match the car, small holdall etc etc.

You must try and get out more. And not just the night clubs in Nuneaton. And look at the bollix you give to civs who really care about you on this site and ask daft questions.

Anyway, I'm still hung over. I might talk more sense when I've taken pooch for a walk.

  9. Agreed, what is it then, 600 or 6000? Or is it just a made up figure, if so can I throw in that I think it might be more like 1234?
  10. it is definately 600, i put an extra "0" in the figure first time of posting & it was answered before i had a chance to amend it.

    apologies
  11. The tv ads are great, what is needed is more shows with tanks and guns people love tanks and guns.

    That or military service
  12. 600 is very low and even for a bad month would be a surprising figure, there must be someone from ATRA looking in. They used to have a digital display in the corridor showing how many have been trapped, sorry, recruited each month with an annual total underneath. Any advances on 600? Personally I think the latest adverts have been pretty good, although 2 serviceable Lynx in the field Army is slightly incredible :) Must be computer wizadry.
