TWO SOLDIERS suffered horrific knife wounds after they were attacked by a new recruit at their barracks.

The injured men, both serving with the 2nd Battalion Royal Green Jackets, spent several days in hospital following the off-duty incident.

One almost died after he was stabbed NINE times in the back during the attack at the barracks in Northern Ireland.

His colleague also suffered multiple stab wounds in the incident, which involved a Jamaican soldier who had only recently been recruited to the famous regiment.

Last night a regimental source claimed the Army had attempted to hush up the incident.

He said: “This was a horrific incident and the two injured soldiers were lucky they didn’t die.

“The man who attacked them was a Jamaican national who joined the regiment as part of a recent recruitment drive in the Caribbean.

“The Green Jackets tend to recruit from London and Liverpool so their soldiers have been brought up in multi-cultural areas and are used to being around other races. What has been happening has got nothing to do with racism.”

An Army spokesman confirmed Royal Military Police were investigating the stabbings, which happened at Abercorn Barracks in Ballykinler, near Newcastle.

He said: “I can confirm that two soldiers serving with the 2nd Battalion Royal Green Jackets were treated in hospital after sustaining serious knife wounds.

“The incident took place in barracks when the men were off duty. The incident is currently being investigated. Because the matter is under investigation we do not feel it would be appropriate to release more details at this stage.”

Despite the seriousness of the incident the Army has not informed the Police Service of Northern Ireland about what occurred at the barracks.

A PSNI spokesman said: “We would expect to have been told about an incident of this serious nature but we have not been made aware of it.”

Wasn't it a Jacket's NCO that got his head stoved in with a pick-axe handle a couple of years ago for upsetting a recruit?

Thought the RGJ stabbed everyone in the back?

  7. Maybe it was the same guy who stabbed Ex Dvr in the Falklands?

  8. Is this a dig at the TA, STAB in the back? Could be a new angle to a STAB in the dark!
