Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Can anybody recomend a good Indian cook book?

I want to be able to cook more or less from scratch, my cooking abilities are OK in that I can follow instructions!

Have 'Googled' it but what I would like is a personal recomendation from somebody who knows what they are talking about.

    Many thanks in advance.

Keith Floyd - Floyd on India, got my Mrs hooked....
  3. Anything by Madhur Jaffrey is good, also I have an oldish one (1980's) called The Memsaab Cookbook, written by a woman who lived in colonial India lots of good recipes, which are easy to follow. Don't know if it's still in print though.
  4. Two of my favourite curry cookbooks are:

The Curry Book by: Laxmi Khurana, Asha Naran and Shelina Jetha. Home style Indian cooking. Not many pictures, loads of recipes. Very good little cook book indeed.

Pat Chapman's New Curry Bible. Not the book if you are in need of a Curry in a hurry!! The recipes in here have a lot of ingredients and are quite time consuming. They are however, bang on in terms of taste and quality!

As said by another poster, Madhur Jaffrey also scores high. Easy to follow recipes and very tasty food.

    Hope this helps.
