A British soldier killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan has been named as Trooper Ashley Smith by the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

A member of the Royal Dragoon Guards, Trooper Smith has been guarding comrades during a routine patrol in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand province on Friday when he was hit by the blast.

The 21-year-old from York is the 299th member of British forces personnel to die in Afghanistan since operations began in 2001...

Thought we had lost another hero, but on checking first post I note the Friday concerned was in June 2010. I am sure family and friends still feel the loss, but could MoD's amend thread title to stop others worrying?

In an ideal world you'd need to have a license to post on the internet iot filter out the mongs.

Failing that people could read the thread before posting?
