Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. What's the white fluff on the inside of rank slides for? Just trying to pull it all out of mine, bits keep hanging out. :?

  2. just the backing to the embroidery isnt it?

  3. Is it necessary?

  4. Can't be much if you're a private....

  5. It is:

    FLUFF, WHITE, RANKSLIDE BACKING,
    SOLDIERS, FOR THE USE OF,
    NSN 8465-99-132-7785

Your lucky to get it. I have to make do with obsolete LINT, GS :x

  6. The whole thing is lined with it. It hangs out of the ends and gets fluffier....

  7. I suppose you teach the cadets how to use it as tinder when you are on E&E... :)

  8. Necessary?

It can be used as tinder in a survival situation, an emergency FFD or a makeshift pillow for a shrew. Probably.

  9. Ho ho - most amusing

  10. for pin pricks??

  11. No, duh, for serious injuries such as bramble scrapes, shaving cuts and the suchlike.

  12. <WAH SHIELD UP>

I've never had any problems with it, but then I've never felt the need to fiddle with it either.
