Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. My father was with the RAMC in Sierra Leone 1941 In his diary he keeps mentioning the RWAFF. Was this an "African soldiers only" Company, or did it have British soldiers in it as well? Would the RAMC be affiliated to it, or would they be an entirely seperate company (or batallion or whatever!)? I am the "researcher" for my son (a Journalist) who is writing a book on his g/father's diary. The main body being his 2years in Sierra Leone. One of our main problems see to be his "attachments"-He was based between Freetown and Willberforce. My son has just returned from doing research in Sierra Leone. He described it as "A step into the diary" Terrible porvety. no decent roads, spasmodic electricity, in fact exactly as it was described i the diary 70years ago!
Anyway I wander!! Can anyone help me -this Iwarn you is the first question of quite a few!:?:?:?:?:?
