RAF Reserve Recruitment

#1
Today I saw an advertisment on the back of a bus seeking recruits for 602 Squadron, RAF Reserve.

They were seeking specifically; Media relations specialists, Journalists, Photographers and Videographers (sic).

I may be getting a bit out of touch but I thought the RAF was about Pilots, Fitters, Armourers etc

A very good friend of my father's was a senior RAF Reserve officer with a media relations role. He deployed on Granby and was a front man to much of the British media. In civvy life he worked as a corporate comms manager for a British bank that went spectacularly bust a few years post GW1 - thus, once again, testing his professional skills!

So, yes, they do have those roles, and have done for some years and yes they do deploy when needed.

The RAF are extremely good at PR, the Royal Navy being not far behind.

A chap I work with was a pilot for the Royal Navy during the Falklands tiff. One of his roles was as an official war photographer. He was co-pilot on Humphrey, so one might say, "in the thick of it".

His private collection of photos is truly amazing, especially on the approach to Fortuna.
