Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. From the Radio Times

    "Out of Aden

    8:02pm - 8:30pm

    BBC Radio 4

Alan Dein talks to civilians and soldiers about the last years of British rule in Aden before independence on November 30 1967 and the bitter civil war that followed. Nearly 160 years of British rule unravelled rapidly amidst pain, recrimination and bloodshed, leaving bitter memories and a deep sense of betrayal on all sides. "

Should provide some interesting parallels from history to that which exists currently in Iraq.

    Regards and best wishes
  2. The first field unit I joined had returned from Aden.
Many, perhaps Tall tales told by the vets.
Great bitterness over the local troops turning on and murdering their Brit colleges.
But also the odd guy wondering what had become of their tea wallah, boot boy when the new Masters took over.
