Radio 2 Again

Now, I know its Radio 2 again, and I'm an old duffer.

However, I was always happy to finish work on a friday and get home and tear into a beer and listen to the all request show, followed by TonyBs hour then listen to the 80s.
Sorted.

Now they've binned TonyB and the 80s to a Saturday slot
The shite they play after the request show drives my teeth to shatter.

However, I've noticed that Absolute radio have taken over the 80s slot, with some right rock tunes,

Why do they insist on losing listeners?

BTW ex paras need not reply as they only had one battle in WW2 and failed in that, according to an Irish Guardsman that I knew.
It did make me chuckle, the FI. Iraq and Afghan battles withstanding

Positive is they are getting rid of that clown Steve Wright - what a knob.

Generally listen to 6 music these days - but tune in on ken brucemeister

Steve Wright is awful. Should have been given the heave-ho years ago.
On the odd occasion I listen to Ken Bruce, I always enjoy it. A broadcaster par excellance IMO (like Eddie Mair was on R4)
R2 do some very good specialist programmes, eg blues, country. I like to catch up on these, especially Bob Harris’ Country show. Huge knowledge of his topic, and listening to his voice is still a touchstone, just as it was listening to the Tommy Vance Friday Night Rock Show all those years ago.
I’m also a big fan of Jamie Callum’s Jazz show.
Mainly listened to on catch up.

It's a generational thing.
My late wife and I were mightily upset when, after 30 years, R2 binned Hubert Gregg's Thanks for the Memory at the 19.30 Friday slot.

Weren’t the Irish Guards in XXX Corps that failed to get to Arnhem and relieve the Paras, despite them holding on far longer than ever expected?

Is that cünt Vine still on R2?

I was going to mention Greatest Hits Radio but beaten to it.

Please don't have that awful idiot Steve Wright move over to GHR. I cannot stand the sound of him.

I used to drive through Warminster very early in the morning and the only radio my car would pick up at the time was either Radio 2 with Fatty Feltz or Warminster Community Radio.
The Community Radio won every time.

The only R2 I will listen to is Ken Bruce.

I well remember my father being angry at John Dunn's removal from R2. No more of the "Legal Beagle", and Ben Fogles dad offering veterinary advice.

On the mention of 'generational thing' - this internet-only station appears to be quite a close match to what I remember my Mum and Dad enjoying on R2, 40 years ago. I bring this up because Mum and Dad are still around, and I recently had the opportunity to suggest listening to it, to them - they don't get on with most of what is on R2 these days. I'll be interested to see how they get on with it - I'm a bit young myself, but I don't mind some big-band and jazz and in small doses it takes me back!

Used to like Shaun Keaveney in the afternoon ( that’s a broadcaster they’ll regret letting go).
Craig Charles, meh
