Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. XXXXX

  2. Trades are

    Tech :D
    Telemech 8O
    Area Systems Operator :(
    Radio Systems Operator :(
    Electrician/Driver 8O
    Driver/Lineman 8O
Information Systems Operator(if that is a real trade) :x
Specialist Operator(dont know if this is in the int corps yet though)

Area systems usually deal with the ptarmigan side of things,
Radio system usually use the clansman.that could be what your looking for.

thats how it works in my unit, jobs however differ greatly on where your posted

  3. I think RS Op (Radio) got canned.

The other trade is Radio Systems Op (Basic)(V) (found in TA Ptarmigan units) which is equivalent of the old Tele Op (Radio), your trade is the TA equivalent of the old Tele Op (RTG)

  4. The NC part of it doesnt matter You are a Radio Systems operator. If you joined another unit that are not NC you would keep the same trade but use different kit that you probably havent got in your current unit like 353 346 etc

  5. XXXXX

  6. Thats true but I personnaly think the RS Op (NC) trade title is quite misleading, it doesn't map very well to regular or TA ptarmigan RS trade.

Most of our none FFR equipment is used by AS Ops in the regs not RS Ops

  7. Out of date kit??? Most of my kit is less than 2 years old :!: :!:

No NC will do Bowman and still have to know about several thousand other systems

  8. XXXXXX :)

  9. The glorious Spec Op is still in the beloved Corps. Rumours are rife at the momment but they have been for years. Cant see it happening for a few years to be honest. However we do work mostly with the Slime, suppose can only be a matter of time like our Lingo's going across a few years back. To be honest i would rather stay in the Corps though! Wait out

  12. Speaking as a ex PSi at a TA unit, RS OP (NC) it doesnt matter when you get attached to a reg unit you will still be classed as aN RSOP, The (NC) is only there while you with your (TA) sqn.

The HFAP's werenot t that time compatible with bowman, this might have changed but i seriously doubt it, however the TX/RX's would have been. I dont trust the NC kit anyway, you can have it fully working, then move the wagon 3 ft and it wouldnt be. Its old technology designed for post nuclear strike, and it massively needs a re think!

  13. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ;0

  14. What about RAS/RLI and AMSCERP? Your main role isn't post nuclear its CCRF support

Think you'll find things have already changed we rarely use the equipment you mention, most of us NC regts have reroled over the last 2 years. I've also heard a rumour that this kit is to be withdrawn from service.

Obviously they will do, but take my recent trg - I've been on plenty of exercises wthin the last year where I've driven a DAF pulling a 16/24, laying out telephones (and PC's), connecting them upto the mux/switch and getting the trunk links established.
Thats not a RS Op I'm describing is it - its an AS Op, plus the NCRS functions more like a SAS/MC than a FFR det.
