Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Does anyone have any information about The Anglesey Royal Engineers?
I know they were based at Kingston Barracks in Beaumaris Anglesey during the first world war and then disbanded around 1919, the old camp is now a caravan park.
There are many clues regarding this regiment dotted around the the town of their presence, but hard info is not so easy to find.
I have some old photos of my great grandfather who was a member of this mob.
Any info will be gratefully received muckers.
  2. If the unit kept a war diary then the original should be at the National Archives at Kew. The carbon copy should be held by the RE Library which is a veritable treasure trove of info. Well worth getting in touch with them.

  3. The only document in a quick scan of the National Archives catalogue which I found is this

    WO 32/3693 (1924-26)

    WO 95/4279 (1915)
