Question Time Commentary

Gardiner is a waffler. However, he has the ability to speak calmly on subjects he knows nothing about yet appear knowledgeable and sensible. He makes a lot of mistakes and
has been demolished by Anndrew Neil on many occasions.
He’s obsessed with portaloos on the M20 it’s seems to be one of his main Brexit worries.

An oxygen thief politician, I'm sure there is plenty more which be added to the list.
Certainly - upwards of 90% of them. But what makes Cable stand out, even among that sorry band, is his Dickensian pomposity and ludicrous self-importance. He really is a living caricature: he’s as thick as pigshit but thinks he’s a political Einstein; he’s utterly irrelevant but believes he’s a kingmaker; he considers himself a grave elder statesman, while everyone outside the Lib Dem loony-cluster mocks him for his bumbling idiocy. His only serious rival in the pompous, look-at-me buffoon stakes (apart from Diane Abbott, who’s in a league of her own) is the arch-prat Heseltine, mercifully now in relative obscurity in the Lords. The sooner we finally see the back of him, the better.

Interestingly, all people with lengthy records as politicians, who've held senior front-bench positions but who've been sidelined, shovelled up to the Lords or onto the street and forgotten about. Clarke, and that very nasty little Scotsman, Salmond, are others who seems to believe that they are Elder Statesmen not to be countered. Sometimes - as with Frank Field - we actually do get Elder Statesmen, but too honest for their own good, and out they go. It doesn't matter which wing of politics these people come from; they get a rousing cheer at their Conference which reinforces their belief in their invulnerability, lose touch with their cleverer advisers, think they're above it all, wise beyond the wit of the herd and suddenly discover that they're yesterday's fish-and-chip wrap.

Polly Mackenzie - Lib Dem Policy adviser, coalition special adviser, CE of Demos - cross party think tank.
Demos - sounds almost like demonstration..

"Demos was founded in 1993 by former Marxism Today editor Martin Jacques, and Geoff Mulgan, who became its first director. It was formed in response to what Mulgan, Jacques and others saw as a crisis in politics in Britain, with voter engagement in decline and political institutions unable in their view to adapt to major social changes. Demos was conceived as a network of networks which could draw together different sources of ideas and expertise to improve public policy.[2]" Demos (UK think tank) - Wikipedia

The aims sound altruistic enough but the founders background in Marxism, which happens to also have followers from various parties...
