Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Why do Regiments with the Prince of Wales feathers as a cap badge have a motto in German "Ich Dien" I Serve ?
  3. You cheated and used Wiki
  4. Sorry
  5. Maybe something to do with the Royal Family being German. Windsor isn't their real name. That would be Saxe Coburg Gothe. They changed it due to anti German feelings in the country, just prior to WW1..

Prior to this the Royals were the house of Hannover, guess where they came from. Mad King George's son, the sock losing Prince Regent had a ponchant for the military, and gave them the right to wear his feathers as a sign of his patronage to those raised in his honour.
  6. The National Museum of Wales say the Black Prince thing is true
  7. Think I prefer the Welsh version. I wonder if the Royal Welsh would too?
