Question on parcels.

These may be bone questions, but I genuinely don't know the answers, so be nice.

An old OTC mate of mine (now a reg) has been packed off to Iraq for some fun in the sun, and I was planning to send some stuff out to him when next I write.

First: Is there any particular procedure for packaging parcels? I'm assuming that parcels get opened up and checked for anything suspect, so I don't want to over-do the wrapping- but on the other hand I don't want anything getting broken.
I also assume that I can walk into my local post office and ask to send my package by first class to Iraq...

Second: Is it safe to guess that my mate and his guys will have access to a DVD player or suchlike, to make down-time slightly more bearable? In all honesty, I'd be surprised if they didn't, but it'd be bloody embarrassing if I was wrong.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
