Queens Crown to Kings Crown

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. If the boss was to step aside and Charles became King are we geared up stores wise to bring in cap bages with the King's Crown?

Or would there be a delay in having them maufactured?

I take it this would also go for Colour Sgt, WO2 & Major rank insignia also?

Last time this was an Issue was 1952, perhaps I should ask Tropper. :D

The change over from 1952 lasted longer than you might think. The SD cap that I bought from Larkhill YO's in the early 90's still had a King's Crown Cap Badge and strap buttons, although that was probably pushing it a bit!

It's more likely to be a phased introduction of new insignia.
  3. I'm probably wrong but isn't the King's crown and Queen's crown thing a bit of a myth?

Isn't it that the Queen decided to formerly re-use the St. Edward's crown rather than the Imperial State crown? There's no reason that the next King will not continue to be identified with St Edward's crown as well.

    Tudor Crown

    St. Edward's Crown

Looks like we will just have to wait and see which one is choosen.

They might not change the crown but there will be a few photos/portraits getting swapped throughout the messes across the world.

Also, it's going to look a bit weird to see CIIIR as opposed to the current EIIR.
  6. Might not be. Hasn't he said he quite fancies being a George? So G VII R?

Absolutely. He can be any of a number of names.

HIXR? EIXR? JIIIR? At least one of them sounds like a Basildon souped up Escort with extra spoiler so he'll be connecting wiv da people.
  8. Such mind taxing complexities on a Monday morning. Maybe Dave will ask HMQ to stick around long enough for him to stabilise the economy before making any changes. At a time like this, buying new buttons for the army AND paying for a state funeral could screw the economy for years :D
  9. You mean J VII R
  10. In keeping with current British trend why not 'Mohamed I'
  11. Only in Scotland!
  12. This could not happen. He would simply be Mohamed. When another one comes along, the new one would be 'Mohamed II', and the original King Mohamed would be referred to retrospectively as 'Mohamed I'.
  13. In this day and age I think even Mohamed might be considered not diverse or 'with it' enough...
  14. Well, at least we wouldn't have to worry about replacing the pictures - surely we would be banned from putting them up?

Back to the crown - the St E crown was used by Q Victoria which perhaps gave rise to this urban myth that it is a "Queen's" crown. However it was also used by all those male Hanoverians before her. I think the change by E VII may be more due to him not having a cosy relationship with his Mamma.
