Well done to all of the above. Way to go Frog.

But who in their right mind nominated and gave this woman a CBE?
Ms Shami Chakrabarti. Director of Liberty. For services to Human Rights. (London, SE11).
She’s the tosser that won't even answer your e-mails to question human rights, it’s wrong to point at a naked prisoners penis or make him simulate sex for a picture, but they didn't and haven't said anything about it being wrong to drag American civilians out of cars shoot them, beat them, drag them behind cars, hang them from bridges, burn them and then mutilate what’s left of their bodies.
Civil liberties my arrse, I fu$king hate that woman.

Rant over, well for 5 minutes anyway.

OBE

WO Class 1 William Daren Gilduff Mott. Welsh Guards.

The Garrison Sergeant Major.

Is this a first or have any other WO1s received OBEs?

It looks good to have a WO1 in a group of Colonels and half Colonels.

Easy to dislike Chakrabarti if you don't actually listen to her or read any of her articles. After all she's a lefty, civil libertarian, female, Asian lawyer.

If you look at what she's saying about the terrorist control orders for example, her view is that control orders don't work (they don't, half of them are on the run) and that what is required is charge, convict and imprison these people instead. her view is that to do this we need reform of anti-terrorist legislation to allow use of intercept evidence (with caveats to protect sources) and the bringing in of additional offences relating to preparation, planning and terrorist intelligence gathering.

I dislike some of Liberty's fellow travellers such as Michael Mansfield QC, intensely. However, Chakrabarti is not some bleeding heart lefty. If you saw the Newsnight interview with her and Dominic Grieve from the Tories this week, you would not have seen any differences between the two. In fact as a politician, Grieve was flannelling and hedging, whereas Chakrabarti was far more direct and straightforward.

Well said Fred.

At face value , it's easy to pigeonhole Chakrabarti , if you don't actually read, or listen closely to what she has to say. Her main bone of contention is legislation that effectively bangs up people for the sake of banging them up. What she wants is a change to ensure the right people are banged up and the key hoyed into the Thames once you are sure.

On British Forces......

Liberty Director Shami Chakrabarti said it would ensure a British Guantanamo could never happen anywhere in the world.

Ms Chakrabarti said: "British soldiers died in a war fought in the name of human rights. Yet our government argued that the Human Rights Act had no place in Iraq.

"This decision means that the government must now face up to its obligations to detainees. Individual soldiers will no longer carry the can for systemic hooding and beating and worse."

Campaigners argue the ruling must prompt an inquiry into whether detainees have suffered inhumane treatment, torture or death while in UK custody.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the same view of a lot of you in other threads?

Certainly not the first as WO1 John Clarke got one in the News Years Honours list this year but perhaps the second!

Congratulations to them all and especially Billy Mott.

She said that? I suddenly find myself liking her enough to buy her a pint!

Thro I have noticed she opens mouth and says real words all the time..

Mong edit...You don't think she's been slipped a gong in the hope she'll shut up?

Little Chakrabati causes me much concern ... she is remarkably non-ranting, intelligent and basically charming.

Dammit, after a bottle or two I could find her [a] attractive, and frighteningly persuasive.

I may not agree completely with what she says, but at least she puts her arguments together sensibly and with conviction. "Mini-Chak" for PM, anyone?

I do think the BBC roll 'Little Chakrabati' out to give an 'expert' opinion too often, however like some others I saw her on Question Time a few months ago and found her rational, suprisingly balanced and disarming. And not a minger. either.
