Pubs in Brecon.

#1
I'm off to Brecon next week, and I would be grateful for any tips on good pubs.
I know this is a bit subjective, so I shall elucidate:-

Real Ale
Edible food
Roaring fire
Buxom barmaids
70s/prog-rock duke box
less than an inch of pi*s on the floor in the toilets

ALL ABOVE = GOOD!

Extensive selection of pre-mixed drinks, aka bitch-pi*s
BOGOF lager/tart-fuel promotions
Acres of Burberry
"Urban" sounds at 100000DB
Locals straight out of "Deliverance"
Obligatory fighting
More than an inch of pi*s on the floor in the toilets

ALL ABOVE = BAD!

Incidentally, I'm not (particularly) old and sad, I just have standards!
:D

Any feedback much appreciated.

OK, sorry for any offence caused!
No need for apologies Dozy, I think you have my measure. People tell me my behaviour when out on the town, would make Olly Reed blush. 8O

We are talking about Wales here. Avoid the pikey nightclub

The Bulls Head Hotel on the Struet is a winner for a few ales

Or the New Inn at Talgarth very olde worlde and good food

oh and the Drovers Arms in Llanfaes

Cheers Oz, duly entered into my TAMs. I take it "The Drovers Arms" is best avoided unless I'm feeling a little "boisterous" ? :D

Excellent, now all I've got to do is arrange an indulgence flight for Dozy, dig out my Gaffa tape and ASP baton, and I've cracked it.

The Wheatsheaf, Sarah Siddens, and the punchbowl thats the main watering holes in Brecon I'am afraid all are packed with squaddies, And most of the fat stinkers from the surrounding vallys, There is a hotel in the main high st, But i can't remember what its called that is more up your street i think.

That's the Wellington Hotel. There's also the Monkey Puzzle (fairly new, Hancocks HB was on yesterday), the Market Tavern does food and has some reasonable beers on, and if you want to strike out from Brecon, there's the Tai'r Bull in Libanus, and the Griffin at Felin Fach.

Yep.

The Siddons is a Rite of Passage for Infantry blokes.

I have a rather rugsy scar from one of the Wheatsheaf locals who made me feel welcome with a headbutt. I was so anaethetised by alcohol ( and, to be fair, his aim missed by nose and hit my forehead ) that I felt nothing.

He clearly though that he had hit The Hardest Man in NATO and legged it when I asked him if that was the best he could do. I was too drunk to do anything about it and carried on drinking ( maintainence of the mission and all that. ) A bit later a mate pointed out that my lager had turned pink as the blood was dripping down my hooter into the glass. I felt like a Geordie.

Happy daze.
