Promotion

Anyone explain how it works these days.

From Tpr to RSM, how does a young soldier get on the promotion ladder, how is he choosen for that first step to L/Jack and how does he progress up the ladder.? and whats req in the way of training at every point of selection for promotion.

Serious question ,requires mostly serious answers.

Should have asked are all promotions decided within the regiment?

Just be the best person that you can be - if you try and be something else then you will spend your career pretending to be something that you are not - it will get noticed and you will go nowhere - fast.

Sorry,i've phrased my post wrong.
What i meant to ask is when somones being promoted either from trooper or further up the ladder ,what's the rules governing it.

Are the decisions to promote made at regimental level or do they go outside the regiment?

I've seen mention of CRs and promotion boards, could someone explain the current situation for me.

Hope this is clearer than my first post.
thanks again
