Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I am part of a team that is trying to put together a "mod" for Operation Flashpoint based on Modern UK Forces (Infantry, Armour, Aviation). and was wondering if i could use this thread to ask about some of the more obscure things we need to model?

The first addon we plan to release is based on the Royal Marines (with a selection of infantry weapons). But the Paras are next.

And the first thing: Can anyone tell me what the scope on a LAW looks like (crosshairs?)

  2. This looks very very nice Vade.

What theatres and Regiments will you be modding?

    What equipment will be featured?

    PTP

  3. You could make it more authentic by giving them unreliable equipment, messing the virtual troops around, making them stand in for virtual firefighters and letting vitual americans with no recognition training taking pot shots at them ;D

  4. Regiments:

Well specfically there will be a Parachute Regiment, SAS and Royal Gurkha Rifles pack .. the Infantry soldier and RAC Trooper will probably be kept "Generic" to avoid arguments (seems everyone has a favourite regiment) but a "regiments" pack may follow at some point.

    Equipment:

    "Done" we have

    SA-80
    SA-80 w/. AG36
    LSW
    GPMG
    Minimi
    Browning hi-power
    Sig P226

    Pending

    Dimaco C8 (w/. AG36)
    LAW80
    Starstreak
    MILAN
    81mm Mortar

    Vehicles wise:

    Done:
    Landrover (a few diff. types)

    Pending:
    Challenger
    Warrior
    Gazelle

plus some more planned but not started

  5. do you do a bedford 4 tonner?? Pack it full of blokes/kit and it breaks down.

To model it add four large wheels to a unremarkable green block.

  6. why not try wquipment that works  i.e.
    SLR
    SMG
    LMG
    GPMG
    BROWNING.5
BEDFORD RL (USED TO LOVE THE BACKFIRE)
    1/2 TON AIRPORTABLE LANDROVER
and a load of techies standing around doing nothing...
but the screen shots don't look too bad.

  7. Can you add a 'down town on the pisss' scene?  Maybe a pub with pisssed up squaddies fighting the civvies, complete with chairs and bottles.  Also, what are the chances of a kebab shop after the pub closes?

  8. And a fat minger to spud in the taxi rank before a one armed taxi driver takes you home ;D

  9. What about a scene covering the 'next morning' with said woman, who you picked up from the cab rank?  Maybe a room in the block, complete with dirty ash tray, empty beer bottles and used kebab wrappers.  You could score points for the excuse you use to get the crockerpig out of your room.  Or score even more for dragging her out by her ankles.  Or lose points for waking up next to a bloke.

  10. Vade,

do like the inadvertant salute to the army procurement!

We wouldn't by choice wander around in deserts with a temperate smock (1st pic) but have to 'cos the sandy coloured stuff if like rocking horse sh1t! ::) ;D

  11. I was under the impression that sandy kit was hard to find, but to get sandy kit that actually keeps you warm you had to be a) Over the rank of major or b) a member of the SAS.

The chaps in the half and half are based on the Marines in Afghanistan. When we get to the Paras and "Regular" Infantry they will get full Desert Kit.
