Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Can anyone suggest a professional walking guide in Snowdonia?

Some friends and I are going to LLan Ffestiniog in Mid December. It would be a pity to go to a mountainous region and not go walking at all, but at that time of year... and with no crampons, no ice axes nor winter expertise – we’ll need a professional to guide us on a safe and low level route.

    Any suggestions?
  2. Yes, me. PM me if you wish.
  3. Ordnance survey do a great series 1/25000. What more do you need?

A death wish, if you want to sod off onto the top of the Snowdonia plateaux without any above snowline knowledge or the appropriate kit.

The Carneddau are bloody lethal in a white out.

Give the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue guys a ring, I'm sure they would have some local contacts....they'd be happy to know at least someone has half a brain before going out on the hills.

Plas-y-Brenin used to be a decent setup, but not used them in ages...think the are more for bigger groups though....may be wrong.

  6. **** me so it's you that keeps getting airlifted off mountains?
  7. Many Thanks for this.
I'm glad you don't think I'm being over cautious - my father lost a chum to Snowdon, so I've a healthy respect for the mountains.
