Patrick Rock

Asked about Patrick Rock and whether government had appointed a welfare officer, the PMS said that no welfare officer had been appointed.

Asked who was Patrick Rock’s previous employer, the PMS confirmed that Cabinet Office was his previous employer and that special advisers were employed by government under special adviser terms.

Airports/security threats

Asked how concerned people should be about airport security, the PMS pointed to the Transport Secretary’s words that morning. He added that it was right that measures were reviewed regularly and when appropriate and government would use a whole range of measures to keep people safe.

Asked about Uganda, the PMS said that the Foreign and Commonwealth office had given a factual update on travel advice.

Asked about whether there had been any discussions with the United States, or meetings with security chiefs that had brought about these changes, the PMS said that the government had close relations with the US authorities on these issues and other matters and remained in close discussion with them and others.
