A logical by product of surrendering to terrorism. It would be too much to hope for that he gets assassinated in Dundalk.

But this is how 'we' (the west) 'win' vs terrorists.

We make them wealthy, respected politicians. They may be complete cnuts that have blood on their hands but thats history.

Look forward to President Bin Laden* in about 20 years time....

*Oh allright I doubt the US would take that....but we can expect some blood soaked complete cnut ex-taliban/AlQ...to be in high political office somewhere if we want to ever get out of the current crud we're in. We're the corrupt and decadant West and thats how we roll baby. It also works.

What a pity the British press could not put out such an article. Well said Kevin Myers.

"As the Sinn Fein movement trembled on the verge of destruction from the sheer weight of informers in it's upper ranks with each meeting of the IRA army council resembling a liaison committee, co-ordinating the different branches of British Intelligence..............."

Kevin Myers, top man.

Its up to the people- adams number 1-
the choice of the people.
Oh stop it. It's just not funny anymore.

Arthur Morgan may well be a shinner, but he's a free state shinner with family and history. Mr Adams has little of this (unless you count his team of unknowns burying bodies in the county). michaelhenry you may get the impression that people on here don't agree with you, but that's nothing to what the free staters think of Northern Shinners. Oh they may sing the crap songs and turn out around easter but as for voting shinners from the North into a position of power in the south.........there'll be more people turning out to welcome Liz2 and Phil when they hit Dublin

Not as strange as we all might think... and a very near reality.
Having looked more closely at this I have come to the conclusion that Adams truely wants out.

He has no quality of life, no peace of mind, and little confidence in his personal security situation. Despite accumulating an enormous pot of wealth and houses in the ROI and other places he cannot have what others would consider a normal lifestyle.

The revelations about his immediate family have not "gone away".

The saga of the "disappeared" will continue.

He can not suddenly resign as "president" of Sinn Fein, he can not resign his seats at Stormont and Westminster without conjecture, with its potential for a fall in support for him and his movement.

Stepping across the border to become a candidate for an election in another jurisdiction is simply a "soft" shift into a different future.

Let's hope he can never step away from his conscience.

(As someone else has pointed out it is somewhat ironic that he aspires to political life in the county in which some of those who "disappeared" have been found - and many not yet discovered).

I doubt they will take it too kindly to having Gerry parachuted into a seat....thats carpet bagging and despite voting for SF, people up there might not like it.

Queen has more sense than to waste her time listening to a bunch of easily outraged republicans and a bunch of elderly bigots in bowler hats
