  1. Manchester United had more fans arrested for hooliganism last season than any other Premier League club, according to Home Office figures.

Some 3,752 arrests were made in total across the football league, a fall of two per cent on the previous season, with arrests being made at one-third of all matches. But arrests for racist chanting rose from 13 to 23, while pitch invasions rose from 203 to 245.

United fans accounted for 185 of the 1,600 top-flight fans arrested during the 2008-09 season, with Newcastle second on 144 and Everton third on 139. By contrast, just 13 Fulham fans were arrested during the season.

Outside the Premier League, Leeds and Cardiff saw the most arrests with 127 and 89 respectively. Figures suggested English fans travelling overseas to watch European matches were better behaved.
