Pratchett's Watch Series coming to the BBC?

I hope they use young unknown actors, keen to make an impression and blow the budget on CGI, rather than past it pensioners

They'll never afford him now he has a little golden fella, but Gary Oldman for the Patrician?

Bear with me here, I love him when he's chewing the scenery but his stillness and the ability to convey multiple layers of thought and emotion through doing very little was a real revelation to me when I watched him in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Talking of which, how about Cumberbatch for Rincewind? And if there is a better Nanny Ogg than Kathy Burke I've yet to see her.

This could rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Bladenburg's suggestion of Rowan Atkinson for Vetinari has merit. The acidity would work.

Cumberbatch? Too up himself for Rincewind.

Agreed, although Cumberbatch would make a good Vetinari.

How about Matt Smith for Rincewind?
Does he ever appear in a Watch book?

I don't think so, but other people mentioned him so I thought I'd jump on the band-wagon.
Its a tricky one - the watch appears in lots of books, Unseen Academicals, many of the Moist tomes and I'm fairly sure when the Librarian appears in watch books (generally rescuing books from fire via LSpace), that Rincewind sometimes is mentioned.

Roof top chase at the Beginning of Night Watch has Ridicully and the Librarian

Dawn French would ham Lady Sybil up too much, but she'd be a great Nanny Ogg.

Yes but those are books where the Watch appears.
As opposed to books about the Watch.
If you see what I mean.

Found this on the internet. I'm sure it's on ARRSE in another thread, so apols for repetition. It's a bit old, some books aren't mentioned.

I'd have Ray Winstone down as Sgt Colon and Tom Hardy playing Vimes as Taboo proved he can do a good sulk .Christopher fairbank (Moxey auf weidersan pet) for Cpl Nobbs or even Mackenzie crook .I do hope they adapt Jingo it's one of the best satirical books ever written in my view and would hit all the beebs diversity buttons

Cumberbatch too up himself for Vetinari as well. Vetinari is a tough bugger but a good egg deep down. Cumberbatch projects a sort of dull, socialist, low level evil that just doesn't fit with the razor sharpness of Vetinari. Rowan Atkinson, I reckon. Lose a few pounds for a more cadaverous look and he has it spot on.

Maybe Cumberbatch as one of the Guild heads, a particularly foppish, self absorbed and dim one I should think.

Guy Henry for Vetinari. In Holby City there is an all knowing aura to him and a subtle menace. Tall slim and an ideal assassin guild member.

I'd love to see Donald Sumpter in a discworld role, but he's probably too old for most of the parts. Lord Downey perhaps?

Miriam Margolyes would be the perfect nanny and that's straight from STP himself.
