Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I have just received this in an e-mail.

    Dear All

If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that he
or she is a company engineer, or telling that they're checking your mobile
line, and you have to press #90 or #09 or any other number, end this call
    immediately without pressing any numbers.

There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09
they can access your "SIM" card and make calls at your expense.

Forward this message to as many colleagues, relatives and friends as you
    can, to stop it.

Many thanks for your time regarding this matter, take care and regards.

Anybody have any idea whether this is gen. or just another 'scare' round-robin.
  2. Many thanks.
  3. a very old hoax at that

  4. However, there is a nice little scam going on at the mo. You know how you sometimes get Parcelforce things through the door saying "we called but you weren't in". Then there's some number to dial to rearrange delivery. Well some sleazebag has set up a premium rate line based in Belize, so even just calling the bstard costs you £15. So top tip, if you get anything that wants you to dial a premium rate number, go to the old saynoto0870.com website and find out if it's a real company and what its actual national number (01234 etc) is.
  5. Thanks for that P D, :thumleft:
  6. This was once a bona fide scam - I had one of these communications in the post myself a few years ago - but it is now inoperative. See this page for details.
